The Other Special Election
Today, Governor Schwarzenegger officially declared a special election to replace Congressman Chris Cox in Orange County. Cox, a Republican, was recently nominated by President Bush—and subsequently confirmed by the U.S. Senate—to serve as Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission. The battle to follow in Cox’s congressional footsteps— a battle one Republican is calling a "bloodbath"—will take place on December 6th. State Senator John Campbell is in the race and is arguably the frontrunner. But there are plenty of other potential challengers, including former Assemblywoman Marilyn Brewer and Jim Gilchrist of Minuteman fame, waiting in the wings. It is a plume Republican district (with lots of big money donors) and it should be an interesting race to follow this fall. |
