Times Fires Back
During the Governor’s round of interviews last week, one media outlet, the Los Angeles Times—the largest circulation paper in the state—was snubbed. In this morning’s Capitol Morning Report, Virginia Ellis, the bureau chief for the Times, shot back: “The watchdog function of the press inherently makes some politicians and their aides uncomfortable. But long-term, history has shown that press freezeouts or blackouts don’t work – not for the press and not for the politicians.” She also said that the Times assumes they were not given an interview because of stories earlier this summer showing that the Governor had a $1 million contract with American Media Inc., a contract he later withdrew from. |
