    Not quite $120 million

    On the Meet the Press appearance, Schwarzenegger backtracked on the $120 million fundraising goal.

    Mr. Russert: And the estimates are you plan to spend $120 million dollars on your reelection effort. When you first ran, you...

    Gov. Schwarzenegger: That number didn’t come from me, may I remind you. It was some outsider that has nothing to do with us has said that, OK?

    So much for that.

    That "outsider"? Rob Stutzman.

    From the Feb. 16 Los Angeles Times story about the $120 million goal:

    "We think it's doable and necessary," said Rob Stutzman, a strategist for the state Republican Party. He cited the battering the governor took in last year's special election, when opponents spent more than $100 million to defeat four Schwarzenegger-backed ballot initiatives. "There's no reason to think that much can't be spent again, if not more, to try to beat the governor."

    Does someone need to update his resume? Is he no longer a Republican?

    Or did the governor just mislead a national television audience?
