Nunez: Gov's package too big
According to the Bee: Núñez, appearing at a breakfast meeting of The Bee's Capitol Bureau, said Assembly Democrats could support a more modest, four-year bond package of up to $30 billion. He said Democrats worry that debt-service payments on a larger package could cut into funds needed for public education. "We can't live with $68 billion," he said. "We don't want to go beyond $30 (billion)." Nunez also has the quote of the week (even if it's only Tuesday). On the debt cap, he said: "Let's just say it's like asking the Republicans to raise taxes." The story is here. |

If the governor and our legislators are worrying about "funds needed for public education", why don't they look at the simple fact that the 1,432 school districts in the State of California use up ( I estimate ) a billion dollars a year in unnecessary administration costs.
Why are they not looking at how public education funds are spent on a system in which 30% of the students drop-out and another 30% do not learn enough to pass an eighth grade proficiency test in English language and arithmetic.
Before an additional $10,000,000,000 is dumped into a downward spiraling educational system, we should analyze what needs to be done to make better use of the funds.
Let's stop playing political football with our children's education.
