Big bills
The Stockton Record's Hank Shaw has a piece today about how candidate's are increasingly raising money from big donors. Just $509 of the nearly $1.5million state Sen. Jeff Denham, R-Merced, has raised for his re-election campaign since last year came from donors giving less than $100. Denham is not atypical. In the world of California politics, buck-raking is for big boys. Mom-and-pop contributions are too small to fuel campaigns that can top $10million, but their nearly total absence is peculiar to California, suggesting both a lack of outreach by politicians and a deep public disengagement from state government, critics say. |
