Voting in the OC
The election to follow former Rep. Chris Cox into Congress takes place today, with odds-on favorite Sen. John Campbell vying to get 50 percent and avoid a runoff as his opponents scramble to unseat him. The OC Register has a column by OC Blog operator Jubal, saying that this marked the OC's first "blogged election." It also marks a rare pseudo-name column in a major paper by a blogger. The race for the 48th also includes Republican Marilyn Brewer, who was endorsed by Sen. John McCain and has tried to use his high name-ID to sway independents, moderates and Democrats to vote for her. The Republican Party responded with the rare primary endorsement of Campbell. Meanwhile, Minuteman activist Jim Gilchrist, who is running as an American Independent, is a wild card in the race. |
