They Lost, He'll Win?
Gubernatorial candidate Steve Westly trotted out two new endorsements today from Democrats with recognizable names: former Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle and former Democratic House Majority Leader Dick Gephardt. Daschle was ousted from the Senate last year in one of the most competitive races in the country and Gephardt's 2004 presidential bid never got off the ground. Among those who believe endorsements matter (which is hardly everyone), there are two schools of thought. One is that big-name endorsements are key (like Daschle or Gephardt, as the Westly campaign would argue) and the other is that more obscure and well-organized "ground game" groups are a better bet. The real question is whether two of '04s losers will they help Westly's '06 campaign get off the ground. |
