Reaching to the Right
Sean Walsh, who heads up the governor's Office of Planning and Research, has written a piece for Steve Frank's website about the Schwarzenegger's fiscal conservatism. Governor Schwarzenegger's Administration has been marked by his efforts to be fiscally conservative, protect the taxpayer, and to spend taxpayer dollars more wisely. The Governor inherited a budget deficit from Gray Davis projected to be nearly $20 billion by 2006. The Davis Administration policies drove our bond rating to near junk-bond status and engaged in the reckless fiscal practices like issuing long-term debt to fund annual spending. The Governor came into office and made fundamental fiscal change that has ushered in historic growth and prosperity for California. Rather than raising taxes to balance the budget, the Governor actually reduced taxes - eliminating the Davis car tax increase and returning $4 billion each year to our citizens. The Governor has reduced the inherited deficit by over two-thirds in the past two years by demonstrating fiscal restraint and implementing pro-growth policies to stimulate our economy.
