Speaker, Pro Tem to roll out policies today
Both Speaker Fabian Nunez and Senate leader Don Perata are rolling out big initiatives today. Nunez is introducing, along with Assemblywoman Fran Pavley, what they are calling ground-breaking global warming legislation. The proposed legislation will reduce heat trapping emissions from power plants, refineries and other sources of pollution. By setting a limit on greenhouse gas emissions, AB 32 would send a clear market signal to investors to develop clean energy technologies for the California market and for export to international markets—making California a world leader in the development of these technologies. That press conference began at 9:30 today. Meanwhile, over at the state Treasurer's office later this morning, Perata is rolling out a $15 billion infrastructure package with Democratic gubernatorial candidate Phil Angelides to "invest in many of the projects California needs to meet the state’s substantial need for smart and environmentally sustainable new infrastructure projects." |
