Nevin slams Yee vote
In a press release this morning titled "Yee Gets Rewarded for Voting to Keep Toxic Toys", Mike Nevin links a contribution made to Senate candidate Leland Yee from the plastics industry with a vote in January. On January 19th, Assemblyman Leland Yee cast the deciding vote to defeat Assembly Bill 319, which would have banned harmful toxic chemicals from baby toys and feeding products in California. Yee was the only Democrat to vote against the bill, which was supported by the Sierra Club and the California League of Conservation Voters and was opposed by plastics manufacturers. Just a few weeks after Yee cast his vote, he received a $2,000 campaign contribution from Plastics California, a Sacramento political action committee formed by the plastics industry. Yee is one of just two Assemblymembers who has accepted a contribution from Plastics California this year. Yee had previously accepted $5,400 from opponents to AB 319. “This is just the latest in a series of questionable decisions that prove Yee is for sale to the highest bidder,” said Seamus Murphy, spokesman for the Mike Nevin for State Senate campaign. “If you look at the bills he has introduced, they read like a who’s who of the largest contributors to his campaign. He’s like a human jukebox – if you want it to play, you have to pay.” |
