League of Cities
After an intense lobbying lobbying effort by Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, the California League of Cities has voted to endorse Proposition 76. "Local officials – mayors, city council members – know firsthand what happens when the politicians in Sacramento spend more than they have,” said Gov. Schwarzenegger, who asked for the League’s support at its annual conference on Thursday. “They sit in traffic for hours each week because transportation funds are raided. They’ve had their money borrowed in both tough times and good. Last year, I stood with them to pass Proposition 1A. I am now proud to have them standing with me on Proposition 76.” The prominent mayors of many of the state's prominent cities (SF, LA, Oakland) lined up against the endorsement, but it went through anyway. Each city is given a single vote. |
